What is MLS Laser Therapy?

MLS stands for Multiwave Locked System. It is a special kind of laser that shines two beams of light into your body at the same time. One beam calms pain quickly. The other beam brings down swelling. Working together, they tell your cells to repair themselves faster.

The laser does not cut, burn or heat your skin. Most people feel nothing at all, maybe a little warmth. A session takes just a few minutes, and you walk out and get on with your day.

Hekas is one of only a few clinics in the whole of the UK to offer the ASA M8, the most advanced robotic MLS laser available. You don’t need to travel to a hospital or a specialist centre, you can get MLS laser therapy right here in Manchester city centre.

Your Session in 4 Simple Steps

Chat & Check

Your therapist asks where it hurts, looks at the area and checks the laser is right for you. Then we build a plan around your goals.

You lie or sit back on the treatment couch. You’ll pop on a pair of safety glasses — and that’s all the prep you need.

The robotic arm moves over the sore spot and does the work for you. It never touches your skin. Most treatments take between 3 and 10 minutes.

No marks, no recovery time. Many people feel lighter and looser straight away. We’ll tell you when to come back and how to look after the area at home.

What to Expect During & After

During the session you’ll feel very little, perhaps a mild, pleasant warmth. You’ll wear safety glasses, and the robotic head keeps a safe distance from your skin. Afterwards there are no marks and nothing to hide. Some people notice relief right away; for longer-term problems, your therapist will suggest a short course of sessions, often a couple of times a week at first. One UK physiotherapy clinic using the same laser reported that around 95% of its patients saw a positive change, with most feeling a difference after their very first session.

MLS Laser Therapy FAQs

Does MLS laser therapy hurt?

No. Most people feel nothing, or a light warmth. There are no needles and the laser never touches your skin.

Yes. MLS lasers are used in clinics around the world. The light is pulsed, so it doesn’t heat or damage your skin. You wear safety glasses during the session.

Most treatments take 3 to 10 minutes. With your check-in and advice, plan for a short visit.

It depends on your injury. Some people feel better after one or two sessions. Longer-term problems usually need a short course. Your therapist will tell you what to expect at your first visit.

Yes — and we often recommend it. The laser calms pain and swelling, which makes hands-on treatment and exercises work even better.

Tell us if you are pregnant, have or have had cancer, take medicine that makes your skin sensitive to light, or have a pacemaker. We’ll check whether laser therapy is right for you.

Very few clinics in the UK offer MLS laser therapy, and fewer still have the robotic ASA M8. Hekas in Manchester city centre is one of them, so if you live in Manchester or the North West you don’t need to travel far to get it.
